Start Your Mystery Posts

Scared? Yeah, Me Too.

When you admit that you are scared, you are being honest, and I thought it only fitting that the first blog entry for this new adventure be one of honesty, brutal honesty.

We’re in this together, you and I, and I think we should be honest with each other.

The writing life is one filled with ups and downs, fear and doubt, bravado and celebration, and right now, I’m scared as hell.

If you remember me from my brief mystery writing zenith back in the early 2000’s, I would be shocked.  I was a blip on the radar screen of the publishing industry, and then, like a false echo, I disappeared.

After a 12 year absence, I am back.

I tend to fluctuate between extreme giddiness in writing again, and extreme fear at writing again.  Can you relate?

You Should Be Scared, That Means You Care

Good.

That means you’re in the right place.

I’ve dusted off Denton and Monty, updated them a bit, and I’m now working on the third book in the series.  You can read more about the series and see the books over at my Denton and Monty site, but for right now, this is about you, and this is about me, and this is about us learning to write mysteries together.

I’m going to keep plugging at my book, and keep plugging at this blog.

When you're scared to write, that's okay. It means that you care about what you're doing and what you're creating. The important thing is to not let it paralyze you. #startyourmystery Click To Tweet

Right now there isn’t one central site where all the good mystery writing advice is kept, and I’d love Start Your Mystery to become that site.

We’re going to be talking about characters, plotting, dialogue, tools of the trade, research and even look at some other mystery novels that we can learn from.

I do hope you’ll join me on this journey.
